Make savings, concern for ecology, and an ethical attitude are the three factors that drove the Vignaga family to install a photovoltaic system in 2012 and generally guide the company’s investments.
“As we emphasize in our company profile,” explains Alessandro Vignaga, “a significant portion of economic resources is invested in adopting and developing new technologies, which must focus on eco-sustainability if ‘we want to leave a good planet,’ as Mario Draghi pointed out in his speech in Senate.”
The photovoltaic system was an excellent solution in terms of savings, because it allowed us to reduce energy consumption and optimize production costs.” As of December 31, 2020, the photovoltaic system produced a total of 951,643 kWh, with an annual average output of 105,738 kWh and a self-consumption percentage of around 70%.
So, it wasn’t a decision motivated only by economic intentions?
It was of course an economic investment that allowed us to save on our bills.
The company, in fact is quite “greedy” for electricity because of machinery that needs several kW to operate.
Especially in summer we are a bit at the limit with the kW required by the grid, therefore having self-generated electricity available gives us the opportunity of exceeding the available kW.
In addition, the installation of the system gave us the opportunity to upgrade the roof, where a structure was installed to ensure greater thermal insulation. This results in shading of the roof in summer, less heat loss in winter and better microclimatic comfort of the rooms below.
And we come to the ecological factor…
For each MWh produced through photovoltaics, the emission of about 530 kg of CO2 is avoided. Thanks to our system, the total CO2 emissions avoided amounted to 504,370 kg. I consider this result an added value both from a production and an environmental point of view.
For MCS, what does sustainability mean?
In a company such as ours, sustainability can involve several aspects, not just that related to renewable energy. A company is also sustainable when the whole “orchestra” plays harmoniously. In my opinion, therefore, sustainability embraces aspects of company atmosphere, relationships with customers and suppliers, and the choice of selected and controlled raw materials.
Is this photovoltaic investment part of a larger project? Are you planning to invest in other renewable energies or eco-friendly solutions?
In addition to the photovoltaic system, by choice and due to an energy requirement, all recent investments, whether in machinery or renovations, have been made with a view to lower consumption. For example, we were able to save nearly 15 kW continuously by upgrading all company lighting with LED lights.
In addition, we have replaced the air conditioning system with a more advanced, inverter system. New or replaced machinery was always purchased with inverter and low-power systems-all to achieve lower electricity demand and better efficiency.
