Choosing the right double-sided adhesive: a factor not to be underestimated.

Gluing is an important aspect in the world of membrane switch, as well as in electronic enclosures and display frames. Selecting the right double-sided adhesives is crucial to ensure the durability and effectiveness of our products.

We do not limit our choice to brand awareness. Instead, we select the most suitable adhesive solution based on a thorough assessment of customer specifications.

It is often underestimated the importance of using a dedicated adhesive according to the application. The use of double-sided adhesives in our process’s ranges from internal laminations of membrane switches, to the gluing of these on various supports, such as enclosures for electronics or panels (painted or not), to the bonding of slides, displays, etc.

We consider many variables, such as the field of use, the type of material (plastics or metals), the finish (for example, liquid or powder coating), the operating conditions (indoor or outdoor), the resistance to thermal or chemical stress. This ensures that each adhesive solution is perfectly calibrated for its functions. For these reasons, we also ensure a wide range of double-sided adhesive products always in stock.

We prioritize the utilization of well-known brands such as 3M, Lohmann, and Nitto, able to guarantee high quality standards. We have different types of double-sided transfer, in mousse, TNT, supported and also LSE (Low Surface Energy) for the most difficult materials and surfaces.

Our ability to test products using materials provided by customers and perform stress tests in our climatic chamber enables us to effectively meet new or specific technical requirements.

And if, unfortunately, none of the commonly managed double-sided adhesives had the desired performance? No problem. We can rely on different suppliers and technicians, who can support us by extending the tests with specific samples of other products.

Some tips dictated by our experience

To achieve the best outcomes:

  • Ideal temperature for applying adhesive tape falls between 18°C and 35°C. If materials have been stored in varying temperature environments, we recommend conditioning them within this range prior to application.
  • Ensure surfaces to be bonded are dry and clean. Prevent condensation on surfaces (e.g., when transporting cold objects into warmer environments). Surfaces should be free from dust, grease, oil, and release agents. Eliminate any silicone contaminants. Remove or stabilize non-adhering paints or coatings.

  • Clean surfaces using only clean cloths and solvents compatible with the material. Isopropyl alcohol is recommended. Allow surfaces to thoroughly dry before proceeding.

  • Apply high pressure to facilitate full surface contact. After positioning, manually apply strong pressure (approximately 10-15 N/cm2), or use pressure rollers or presses. Test adhesion only after 24 hours.
  • Ensure bonding occurs without creating a lever effect (risking breakage or stress damage). Continuous tension during bonding can compromise the bond’s permanent elasticity. Avoid stressing the ends of materials being bonded.
